Rodrick the Bold!

I am very happy to announce that Rodrick the Bold is now available for preorder!

You might notice that this book is listed as book three of The Mackintoshes and McLarens Series. No, it isn’t a typo. 😉

Rodrick the Bold begins right after The Bowie Bride. If you read that book, you will remember we had a nefarious traitor. You will also remember the reasons behind that person’s traitorous acts. (I am trying not to give away any spoilers for those who haven’t yet read The Bowie Bride.)

Brogan’s Promise is listed as book four in order to squeeze Rodrick in where he belongs. 😀

Cooking with Hallee Bridgeman!

Hallee Bridgeman is one of those sweet, kind souls the world needs more of. She and I have been friends for a few years now and I absolutely adore her! She writes Inspirational Romance that will just blow your socks off. Seriously, she is a beautiful and talented writer. (You can find her books here.)a1d186369cd6bb16dc23128d9dc9c052_400x400

Not only can the woman write, she can also cook. And I mean cook from scratch. As in: she even grinds her own wheat to make flour!

In April, Hallee and her family will be coming to visit me and mine. We’re going to do a cooking video together, for her cooking blog. We’ll even do some live video feeds that day on FB (and Twitter if I can figure out how, lol)

Yesterday, Hallee posted about our project on Facebook, (you will find the original post here) and asked for Scottish recipe ideas. Someone suggested haggis. Actually, several someone’s suggested it. I made the following comment regarding just that: screen-shot-2017-03-06-at-8-07-48-am

The only way I’ll eat haggis is if it is served on Chris Hemsworth’s naked abs!

Well, one thing led to another, as often happens when authors are involved.

I dared Hallee to ask Chris Hemsworth to join us. She took me up on my dare! screen-shot-2017-03-06-at-8-09-41-am

Now, I know there isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Chris Hemsworth would actually show up to our cooking day. (Now how on earth would I explain that to my husband???)  This is JUST for fun! You can follow Hallee and me on twitter and look for our hashtags: #Chrishemsworthsabs #chrishemsworthshouldcookwithHalleeandSuzan #halleeandsuzancooking #oneoldbroadandonegreatcook #scotchwhiskygoeswitheverything

We’ll add more hashtags later, I’m sure! And if you can think of one we should use, please leave it in the comment sections below. Or if you have a recipe you’d like to suggest, let us know and leave those in the comments sections below.

Send A Little Love

Cancer sucks.

I don’t think I know a single person who hasn’t been touched by cancer in one way or another. I’ve lost a grandfather, two cousins and two uncles to various kinds of cancer. screen-shot-2016-10-01-at-7-56-50-am I have witnessed first hand how it can ravage a person’s body. I hate this disease, no matter which form it takes; breast, ovarian, prostate, liver, blood or bone.

In addition to those beautiful people we lost to cancer, there are survivors. My maternal grandmother and her sister were breast cancer survivors. I also have an aunt and a very dear friend who have survived breast cancer. Each of them met this challenge head on with grace and dignity, and yes, a lot of tears.

If you’re a survivor or a caregiver, know that I admire you. This is an ugly disease that I hope we can someday eradicate.

My grandmother chose to use humor to deal with her mastectomy.  No matter how much pain she was in, she refused to let us see it. I went to visit her a couple of weeks after her surgery and asked her how she was feeling. I will never forget her response. “I seemed to have misplaced my plastic boobie and now, I’m walking around in circles, veering left.”  I about fell out of my chair!

Seeing first hand how this disease not only affects the lives of the cancer victim, but also their families and caregivers, I jumped at the chance to help with Romance Has A HeartOver 100 authors have joined together to donate over 2,000 books to breast cancer survivors and caregivers.

There are no hoops to jump through. You can browse by genre or heat level and pick a book you’d like to give to either a cancer survivor or their caregiver. There are digital books and paperbacks galore! I’m giving away digital copies and paperbacks.

The King’s Courtesan Cover Reveal!

It’s a busy day here! I just sent out my newsletter which revealed the cover to The King’s Courtesan (among other things!)

When I asked the cover artist to blend my covers with HM Ward’s, I did not think she’d surpass my expectations on the first attempt. But she did!

The King’s Courtesan will go live on October 20, 2015 as part of HM Ward’s Kindle World, The Arrangement Series.  Please note that we do not have pre-order links at this time.

My story takes place in 18th century Italy, more specifically in Turin and the House of Savoy. The story, while completely fictional, does contain some real-world characters from that time. Hours and hours of research went into this book and I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about that time period and the country.

On October 20th, I will be hosting a very different kind of Book Release Party. I think you will enjoy how we’re going to change things up! I’ll have more details for you as the time draws nearer to release day.

So without further ado, I present to you, the cover for The King’s CourtesanThe-Kings-Courtesan-1-Kindle

The Gift of Reading

I will admit openly to stealing this idea from Hugh Howey. He’s one of my heroes in the indie publishing world and someone I admire a great deal.

This post is all about the love of reading. As a child, I was horribly, painfully introverted. Reading, as was writing, was a means of escape. It was my mother who gave me this love of reading. I firmly believe this was the best gift she ever gave me. Without that love and passion for reading, I doubt that I would have developed the love and passion for writing.

My favorite childhood memories were the weekly trips my mother and I would take to our local library. To this day, whenever I step into a library, I am instantly at peace. The world around me falls away. The smell of all those beautiful tomes is more relaxing than any scented candle or day at the spa.

As I grew older I would read read my books and all the books my mother would come home with. While many people go to yard sales to buy knick-knacks or furniture or what-nots, mamma and I went in search of books. Finding books for a nickel was akin to hitting the lottery. 20 books for a dollar? Heaven on earth!

I loved reading then and still do today. Though I have to admit to not being able to read three or four books a week like I used to. I’m too busy writing them — which is also like Heaven on earth to me.

I still love paperbacks and hardcover books and still visit my local libraries as often as I can, but I also love my Kindle. One of the things I love most about my kindle is that it’s like having every library in the world right at my fingertips. We have a lot of cold, dark, snowy winters here in the Midwest, days where you can’t leave the house because the snow is too deep or the windchill factor dangerously low. Instead of having to bundle up like I’m getting ready for the Iditarod, I can make a cup of hot chocolate, curl up in my favorite chair, and open my kindle. I’ve got hundreds of books on my TBR list, but if I want something different, I can visit the Kindle Store and find something new. One click and it’s mine. Hundreds of thousands of books all in the palm of my hand. I get goosebumps just thinking about it!

Because I believe reading is so important and I love the Kindle Unlimited Program, I’m going to do a special giScreen Shot 2015-08-22 at 8.56.54 AMve away. I’m going to give away ONE Kindle with 6″ with glare free touch screen and wi-fi, valued at $79. I’m ALSO going to give away five (5), six-month Kindle Unlimited subscriptions which are worth $60 each. Yesterday, I discussed why I
liked this program — yes I am a member and use it all the time — and answered some common misconceptions about the Kindle Unlimited program.

I will choose five winners from those who comment on this post and tell me why you love to read, what reading meant to you as a child or what it means to you now. What were some of your favorite books as a kid? As an adult? No, you don’t have to answer all these questions, they’re just suggestions. I will announce the winners before I leave for the InD’Scribe Author and Reader event in September.

I was telling my friend, the divine and beautiful author Kathryn Le Veque about borrowing Hugh’s idea. She was so excited about it that she is going to give away five (5) Kindle Unlimited Subscriptions too. So now, you’ve doubled your chances of winning! Just visit Kathryn’s site by clicking here.

UPDATE: The response to this has been amazing! People are asking about hashtags. Please use #giftofreading, #giftofreadinggiveaway, or #suzantisdalegiveaway for tweeting or FB posts. Thank you all!!!

Now let’s share the gift of reading!

What REALLY Happens When You Click the “BUY IT NOW” Button On a Book?

What REALLY Happens When You Click the “BUY IT NOW” Button On a Book?

Every time you click that ‘Buy Now’ button, ‘Read For Free’ button’ or ‘PreOrder Now’ button — whether your at Amazon, iBooks, B&N, Kobo or wherever you purchase your books — you’re helping an author’s dreams come true. You might not realize it when you click it, but that is exactly what happens. Every. Single. Time.

Screen Shot 2015-07-03 at 9.59.33 AM

From the bottom of my heart, I thank each and every one of you. You have made more than one of my dreams come true and all you had to do was click a wee little button.

The most recent dream you helped me — along with Kathryn Le Veque, Christi Caldwell, Cynthia Wright, Eva Devon and Eliza Knight — accomplish was making the USA Today Best Sellers List. With Dreams Only Of You is making a lot of dreams come true!11659551_939260139450682_2630922266083120639_n

I am eternally grateful to you, to all of you.

No matter the author, no matter the book, every click, every turn of the page you do helps one more author attain a goal and get closer to fulfilling a dream. So in reality, you’re part of something awesome, something spectacular, tangible or intangible.

Know my heart and know that I am humbled by your kind words and encouragement. Know my heart and know that I appreciate each and every one of you. Know my heart and know that I am grateful. I would not be where I am today were it not for all of you.

With gratitude,

Suzan
