Let Voting Begin!

This is such an exciting time for indie (independent) authors!  Week 2 of the reader portion of the 2016 RONE Awards begins today! What is a RONE? From the InD’Tale website:

‘Each year InD’tale Magazine honors the very best books in the Indie and Small publishing industry by awarding the prestigious RONE award.  To achieve this award, a book  must go through the most comprehensive process in the industry today, with three distinct areas of focus.

  1. All books in each given year (January 1st – December 31st) must have been read and reviewed by our professional staff of reviewers and be given a four star rating or higher to qualify as a nominee.
  2. All nominees, with the exception of 5 star rated books which will automatically become finalists, must then be voted on by the reading public.  The books with the highest number of public votes will progress on to become finalists.
  3. The finalists will then be read by a group of industry professionals consisting of editors, writers, professors etc. and be judged on a one to five scale from a specific list of requirements such as characterization, overall arc, editing etc.   Those scores will then be tallied by a professional company unrelated to InD’tale or its employees to determine the winner of the coveted RONE award, along with the honorable mentions.

All awards are announced at the annual RONE award gala event and ceremony and given the beautiful Crystal RONE award. This is a formal but extremely fun and entertaining night for all, one that truly honors all Indie and Small published authors, readers and professionals!’

In 2014, my book, Rowan’s Lady won for Best Historical Pre-Medieval Novel! As soon as my office is done, that puppy is going on my mantle! 😀

Each Monday, new categories are posted on the InD’Tale website. Reader voting is an extremely important to the RONE process. Books need votes in order to move on to the second round. Without reader votes, our books don’t move forward.

After all the votes are tallied, those books with the most votes move on to the second round where they are read and judged by professionals in the publishing industry. The book with the top score wins the RONE for that category. Winning a RONE is like winning a Grammy! 😀

This year, I have several books up for RONE’s: The With Dreams Only Of You Anthology (voting took place last week), Caelen’s Wife for Best Historical Pre-Medieval (April 25 – May 1), Saving Moirra’s Heart for Best Novella (May 16 – 22), and The King’s Courtesan for Best Historical Post-Medieval (May 23 – 29).

Some frequently asked questions:

Q: How do I vote? A: Just visit the InD’Tale Magazine Website by clicking here. You must be a subscriber to the magazine in order to vote. Don’t panic! It’s free, super easy, and they do not flood you with hundreds of emails a week. (One more reason I love the site!)

Q: Can I vote more than once? A: No. It is one vote per subscriber.

Q: When do we find out who moves on to the second round? A: Once all the votes are in and tallied.

Q: How long does voting last? A: 6 weeks. Each week they post new categories.

Q: Can I nominate a book? A: No. Only those books that were previously submitted to InD’Tale Magazine for a review and received a 4 or 5 star review are eligible.

Q: When do we find out who won? A: In October! None of us knows until the RONE awards ceremony that takes place on Saturday night during the InD’Scribe Author and Reader Conference!

Q: Can I attend the ceremony? A: YES! You can attend the entire conference if you want. Join us for a day or a week. (This is the most fun you’ll have at any conference!) Click here for more information.

I thank you all in advance for your kind support!

The King’s Courtesan Book Trailer!

It was a very exciting night here! Book Candy Studio’s sent me the finished official book trailer for The King’s Courtesan!

As always, I think they did a marvelous job!  See you at our book party on the 20th!!

Things To Know About The King’s Courtesan

As some of you may or may not be aware, The King’s Courtesan went live yesterday. In my excitement, I thought it was a pre-order link that I shared with my 6800+ newsletter subscribers. I found out an hour later that it was in fact ‘live’. I’m good with that.

We will still have our awesome Facebook party on October 20th. Like Tanya Anne Crosby told me this morning: it’s like having a baby shower after the baby has been born. It is still going to be an awesome event and I hope that you will still attend. Keep the evening of October 20, 2015 open, from 6:00 to 9:00 central time.

The last 18 hours have been quite busy here. I am learning all sorts of things about Amazon’s Kindle Worlds that I feel compelled to share with  you, my lovely readers.

  1. The Kindle World is only available to US customers. Don’t panic. Come hell or high water, I will make certain my outside the US readers get a copy. ;o) If you are outside the US and want to read The King’s Courtesan please send me an email to: suzan@suzantisdale.com. I will respond as soon as possible.
  2. When readers call Amazon’s tech support, the support people will tell you that it’s all my fault because I didn’t click a certain button to make it available in all countries. I can assure you this is not the case. There seems to be a disconnect between the tech support people and Amazon’s Kindle Worlds. I want all of my readers to be able to read this book. At this point, the matter is entirely out of my hands, but again, I’ll do whatever I can to make sure you get a copy. You’re all very important to me, not matter what country you live in! ;o)
  3. Any book that you find in Amazon’s Kindle World is not available in print or audio format. Amazon owns those rights. I didn’t realize that until after I agreed to be a part of this project. I have learned that I will get my rights back in ten years.
  4. Amazon also sets the price of the book based on length. This book is considered a full sized novel at over 82,000 words. I have absolutely no control over the pricing.

I know what a hassle this is for you and I am sincerely sorry for the inconvenience. If I had my way, it would be available in all countries, in all formats.

I’m still glad that I decided to write this story for HM Ward’s The Arrangement Series World. I would not trade this experience for anything. It was a joy to write The King’s Courtesan. I have no regrets.  So far, my beta readers have loved reading it and I hope you do as well.

The King’s Courtesan Cover Reveal!

It’s a busy day here! I just sent out my newsletter which revealed the cover to The King’s Courtesan (among other things!)

When I asked the cover artist to blend my covers with HM Ward’s, I did not think she’d surpass my expectations on the first attempt. But she did!

The King’s Courtesan will go live on October 20, 2015 as part of HM Ward’s Kindle World, The Arrangement Series.  Please note that we do not have pre-order links at this time.

My story takes place in 18th century Italy, more specifically in Turin and the House of Savoy. The story, while completely fictional, does contain some real-world characters from that time. Hours and hours of research went into this book and I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about that time period and the country.

On October 20th, I will be hosting a very different kind of Book Release Party. I think you will enjoy how we’re going to change things up! I’ll have more details for you as the time draws nearer to release day.

So without further ado, I present to you, the cover for The King’s CourtesanThe-Kings-Courtesan-1-Kindle

Secret Project REVEALED!

The King’s Courtesan

Last fall I received an email from a Kindle Worlds representative asking if I had time for a telephone call.  (For those of you who might not be familiar with Kindle Worlds, it is a place where people can write fan fiction based on favorite books, movies, comics and music.) I had no idea why they wanted to talk to me. Intrigued, I said yes and am so glad that I did.

Turns out that the awesome and talented NY Times & USA Today Best Selling Author HM Ward asked her Kindle Worlds rep to call me. Yes, the HM Ward author of the legendary “Arrangement” series. She wanted to know if I would be interested in writing in her Kindle World The Arrangement Series. I had to ask him three times if he was certain he had the right person. I knew her, but how on earth did she know me?

HM requested that I write an historical romance that would explain how the Ferro men in her contemporary romance series became cursed. Although I wasn’t at all familiar with Kindle Worlds I knew this was a tremendous opportunity and felt more than honored to be asked.
You can read more about HM and her books at her website.

This all happened last fall. I was fully prepared to write the story at that time, but then my mother became ill and passed away. I’m about a year behind where I wanted to be, but that is okay. I’m quickly working to get back on track.

Needless to say, I’m super excited about this project. The research has been quite intense but lots of fun! Political intrigue was rather abundant in 18th century Sicily, which fits in perfectly. My story, The King’s Courtesan, is a combination of real-life people and events blended with my fictional characters.

Our tentative release date has been set for October 20, 2015! Unfortunately, Kindle Worlds does not allow for pre-orders or paperback editions at this time. We’re hopeful that will change in the future.

We’ll soon be doing a cover reveal. Newsletter subscribers will get to see the cover first.

The King’s Courtesan

Isabella Di’Lorini  led an ordinary life until one summer day in 1727 when her entire world was turned upside down by one tiny spark. That small spark destroyed life as she knew it, but it also gave birth to another…

Fate and circumstances take Isabella to Sicily, where her life once again changes. From the simple life of a scullery maid to life as a courtesan—-until she met Charles Emmanuel, Heir Apparent and Prince of Piedmont.

No one ever plans on falling in love. But life rarely goes as one plans. Is their love strong enough to transcend a curse?

before anyone else.
